Today we will see how to weave (without loom), in a simple and fast way, strips of fabric to form the famous Houndstooth design.
To simplify the explanation, I only alternated 2 strips per color, often at least four or more are used. The method is valid both for weaving with threads and with ribbons of different types; using the wires, however, we should devise other systems to pin them.
All you need is two-color strips of fabric and pins.
When using strips of felt it is important to cut them at least 15 mm, too small by pulling them they would shrink or could break.
I will give you only a brief explanation, for the rest the photos are sufficient to explain the various steps.
In this example I used a larger piece of felt that served as a base and allowed me to proceed more precisely.
You start by pinning, in the upper left corner, two stripes (in my case a vertical violet and a horizontal turquoise) the violet is above. We proceed by pinning other horizontal strips alternating the colors from 2 to 2 (2 purple, 2 turquoise, etc.) as well as alternating the colors alternating the overlaps but one by one. As you can see from the photo the first horizontal (blue) was below then the second (purple) goes above, the third still below etc.
To alternate the colors 2 by 2 and the overlapping one by one is the only thing to do, nothing else is needed.
If you want to have fewer stripes 'between the feet' put all the horizontal stripes first, pinning them to the first vertical one; you can then pin the vertical strips one at a time, intertwining each new pinned strip with all the horizontals before moving on to the next.
