It is in the 16th century that the use of preserving dried samples of plant species began in order to form herbaria mostly of plants for medical use. These are placed side by side with the already widespread illustrated herbaria.

Our purpose of harvesting and drying, much more frivolous (we will use them for decorative purposes), leads us to make considerations on the collection of which types of flowers and in what quantity. We always take due account of respect for rare and endangered species; but we also take into consideration the modality of regeneration and diffusion of the plant; we do not collect species of which we only see a few specimens in a bush or which are not yet in full bloom; it is preferable to collect shrub flowers rather than wildflowers; flowers that also reproduce by root system or by bulbs rather than by seed.

Having said that, I move on to list the few materials we need to make the home flower press: 4 bolts, the longest you can find (I found them 8 cm), 4 wing nuts and 8 washers, 2 wood with a thickness of at least 1 cm. Considering that we can also use the press for handmade paper, I would recommend taking wooden tablets about 4-5 cm larger than an A4 format. Then you will need a drill with a bit the size of our bolts or very little more (6-7 mm)

Avoid making a press that is too large as the pressure of the screws placed at the corners is not as optimal as the one we can have with a press with central pressure (especially when we use it to press handmade paper); so let's limit ourselves to the best we can get with this simple tool.

After having superimposed and tied the boards, make 4 holes with the drill at a distance of about 2 cm from the corners.
Paint the tablets with impregnating and waterproofing flatting, allow to dry, then insert a washer for each bolt, insert the bolt into the 2 tablets, then again a washer on the bolt followed by the wing nut
.
that's it for now, have fun and
see you next time!
