The materials used are: 7cm aida band, embroidery or crochet thread, 3mm double satin ribbon, sewing thread of the same color as the aida. The tools: needle, scissors. Optional vinyl glue.

Cut about 23cm of aida edge (there are 36 arches of the side band, plus 2 halves at both ends), fold the ends to make the hem (1 arch and 1/2) and fix the fold with the iron; On the cut it is possible to pass some vinyl glue with a brush, the glue stops the cut threads preventing it from fraying during processing; after having dried the glue we sew the hem on the third row of holes (exactly at the height of the meeting between the first and the second bow), sewing it by hand with a stitch in each hole the seam will be almost invisible, but it is possible also make by machine.

Now let's move on to the decoration of the hem with a festoon stitch, we can use embroidery thread or crochet thread of the same color of the embroidery we are going to do or of the same color of the canvas; if we use colored thread, the festoon stitch alone may be sufficient, if we want a richer or more particular finish we can make a crochet border or sew trimmings. Leave it unfinished if you are short on time or want to do something simpler.

Once the edges are finished, choose a design to embroider and bring it back to the canvas, to have the design in the right position fold the canvas in half (lengthwise) and leave at least 2 centimeters from the center. The embroidery can be done in cross stitch or with other types of stitch, the possibilities are many. A quick alternative are thermo-adhesive or sewing applications, rhinestones can also be used.

The next step is to sew the sides of the bag by hand or with the sewing machine, they must be sewn from the outside so as to leave the bows on the side, so we have the side finishing given by the thread bows.

The last finishing touches consist in inserting a thread at a distance of 2 cm from the hem passing it every two holes, this thread will be used to tighten and close the bag; if you used a thick enough thread for the festoon stitch you can use the same thread if the thread is thin make it thicker by doubling it or making a braid, or use different cords according to your taste; the last step in our case was to put a bow in the center but here too there are many variations (flowers, puppets, various objects ... you can also make them yourself: crochet, with polyclay, with beads.
