This project stems from the need to consume the remainder of some balls of merino wool in three colors: black, white and red; in greater quantity of the former and less than red. The initial idea was to do something in two colors with red decoration, I then moved on to the choice of the diamond design. The work is done with n. 3, in stockinette stitch in one piece, the back does not continue with the rhombuses but is all black except the final points of the lateral rhombuses. It starts with black then there are five rows of diamonds, BNBNB, and ends with black. Processing can also be done in tubular; I made it open because I had doubts about the size, with open processing I could have corrected any errors in width.
I worked with 184 stitches, for the number of rows I adjusted as the work proceeded since the close-fitting model (without increases or decreases) widens in the points of the hips and chest, shortening accordingly; there are about 78 lines for each diamond, the total will be + or - of 400 lines. The maximum width of the rhombuses is 39 stitches. Cannolè and neck are added later.
The diamond pattern you can see in the following image
The red lines were subsequently embroidered in knitting stitch to avoid working with too many balls and threads that intertwine (in the next post the video for knitting stitch embroidery), so only seven are used at the same time. The cannolè and the neck are worked with industrial ribs on a knitting machine and then sewn.
During the working on the obverse the white is increased and the black decreases, the next row, on the reverse, the same colors are worked as they occur, with the foresight to cross the threads when the color changes. When you arrive at a single black stitch from the next row (purl) you start to increase the black and decrease the white, then the straight row is worked the colors as they are.
When you arrive at a single stitch of the white rhombuses (after working the iron in reverse), proceed differently: one more row is knitted with the same colors as the previous one, the next row is purled all black stitches are worked while continuing to cross the threads when changing, the iron after (work straight) the white starts to increase again.
For the armhole, sleeves and crew-neck, proceed as for the usual processes. The finishes on the edge of the armholes are made with 20 cm circular needles n. 3. With the crochet hook, I recreated some stitches on the edge and, then passed on circular needle, worked 2 rows plus 2 more with 5 decreases under the armpit (1 every 6 stitches in the first, one every 5 in the second), more row with decreases both along the whole round (1 every 8 or 1 every 9 according to the number of stitches you have) and underarm 1 every 4 stitches; then last closing lap. There are several possible ways to finish the armhole and they can be used according to the desired effect.
