3D heart made with the needle felt technique.
Materials: extrafine merino carded wool.
Tools: 3-needle pen puncher and pink design template both by Clover, base for needle felting.
About 1-3 grams of wool are needed, depending on the level of firmness or the size you choose.
The Clover mask is the one for the realization of the rose, but nobody forbids us to use it in other ways and, since the design of the petals is in the shape of a heart, we take advantage of it to facilitate the realization of these three-dimensional felt hearts.
In the mask we find three shapes of different sizes to choose from; they are 2 cm high, I advise you to fill with wool until it leaves, keeping it pressed, only half a centimeter from the edge.
Single color or marbled wool.
At first, needle uniformly then concentrate above all on the points of the heart and on the edges, both when the wool is still in the mask and after having removed it, still continuing to needle in other points. You will understand which are the points in which to insert the needles both with the sight and with the touch ... where you see a stitch to wear out or where you feel that a stitch is too soft. You can also help yourself with your hands, both in modeling and, in the end, to smooth and eliminate the needle holes.
The Clover 3-needle pen puncher is used as if it were a chisel or rather a spatula, the wool is modeled.
I have to take a few words to describe Clover felting needles. Not all felting needles are the same, there are thick needles and fine needles and, among the fine needles, the Clover ones are ... even finer, ideal for working very fine wool. You will notice the difference in the compactness that you will be able to give to your work.
Due to the fact that they are very fine these needles are also very delicate, they break much more easily, so work calmly, be careful not to touch the edges of the mask, it takes very little to break the needle. Also pay attention to your fingers, until you have mastered the tool, pricking will be inevitable and also very painful.
Important: Needle punching always applying force towards the tips. If the pen is in a vertical position from top to bottom but if you keep the pen tilted try to direct the stroke obliquely ... in short, avoid that the needle bends even slightly because you risk it breaking.
